Wednesday 11 November at 7 PM we will show the film Charlie Wilson's War in Cafe Amsterdam. This film from 2007 directed by Mike Nichols tells the true story of U.S. Congressman Charlie Wilson, who partnered with CIA man Gust Avrakotos to launch Operation Cyclone to organize and support the Afghan moslim fighters in their war to the Soviets in the eighties. Film shows that this operation still has effects on the present situation in Afghanistan. Starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Ned Beatty and Philip Seymour Hoffmann, who was nominated for a Oscar as "best supporting actor". |
