Dear all,
Coming Wednesday 21 March at 8pm we will show in our cafe the British film "Made in Dagenham" (2010), directed by Nigel Cole and starring Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Andrea Riseborough.
"Made in Dagenham" is a comedy/drama of a true British history which happened in 1968. In 1968 the Ford auto factory in Daganham was one of the largest employers in the UK. In addition to the thousands of male employers, there were also 187 underpaid woman who assembled the car seat upholstery in poor conditions. Refusing to tolerate the inequality any longer Rita O'Grady leads a strike by her fellow female workers for equal pay for equal work. The strike eventually led to the Equal Pay Act of 1970.
"Made in Dagenham" has been described as a properly feelgood film and as an entertaining good humoured comedy.
