Tonight at 8pm we will show in Cafe Amsterdam the film "Rebelle" (English title: "War Witch"). Rebelle is a 2012 Canadian drama film written and directed by Kim Nguyen who worked for more then 5 years on this project. "Rebelle" has been filmed on location in Africa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The film won several awards and has been also nominated as one of the five films for Best Foreign Language Film at last Sunday's Oscar festival (but lost from "Amour" which we showed last week). The film is about child soldiers in the African civil wars. Plot: Komona is a 14-year-old girl who has been kidnapped from her African village by rebels to become a child soldier. She escapes from the rebels camp with an older albino solder and experiences for the very first time the joy of a peaceful life. But a new tragedy will force her to confront and fight the ghosts haunting her mind... We will show the film in the original French language with English subtitles. ![]() |
